NASCAR continues its jam-packed ten days of racing on Wednesday, May 20th, when the Toyota 500 runs at Darlington Raceway. The race is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will air on FS1.
This will mark the second Cup Series race at Darlington in four days. The Real Heroes 400 went down this past Sunday, marking the season was suspended after the March 8th FanShield 500. Kevin Harvick won the race, with Alex Bowman coming in second. Brad Keselowski started the race on the pole.
Wednesday’s race will be the 117th Cup Series race hosted by Darlington Raceway. Ryan Preece has the pole position for this race, based on a curious form of draw. Normally, NASCAR runs qualifying laps before their Cup Series races. They are not using qualifying for the time being, and used the finish of Sunday’s race to determine the order. They broke it down as follows:
- Starting positions 1-20: The top 20 finishers from May 17th are inverted for May 20th
- Starting positions 21-40: The bottom 20 finishers from May 17th will start from their finishing positions for the start of the May 20th race
Ryan Preece will start on the pole, with Ty Dillon joining him on the front row. Joey Logan and Clint Bowyer hold down the second row, followed by Ryan Blaney and Ryan Newman. Bowman and Harvick will start 19th and 20th. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. currently sits at the back of the pack in the 39th position. There is one open spot if a new entry joins the field.
DraftKings Sportsbook has installed Kevin Harvick as the +400 favorite for the race. Kyle Busch is +650, followed by Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. at +800, and Alex Bowman and Brad Keselowski at +850.
