Best lineup strategy for Bayer Leverkusen-SC Freiburg Showdown

Kai Havertz should bounce back against Freiburg to follow up a poor showing against Wolfsburg earlier this week.

Bayer Leverkusen is set to take on SC Freiburg Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET. DraftKings will have Showdown contests available for the Bundesliga matchup, and we break down ideal lineup strategy below. Set your lineups here.

Captain’s Picks

Kai Havertz, M/F, Leverkusen ($15,300)

Havertz was bottled up by Wolfsburg in his last match after getting off to an amazing start when league play resumed two weeks ago. He struggled to make an impact because of an excellent game from John Brooks, who marked him relentlessly. Havertz didn’t play when Leverkusen tied Freiburg in November, but should be involved as ever while Kevin Volland’s status is up in the air. Havertz’ all-around game makes it hard to see him being a dud twice in a row — especially against a team that’s fresh off conceding three goals to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kerem Demirbay, M, Leverkusen ($14,100)

Like Havertz, Demirbay was also in poor form against Wolfsburg. He was subbed off after 65 minutes and only tallied four DKFP. The seven crosses he totaled in the contest are promising though. Demirbay has one goal and two assists since league play resumed and is up against a Freiburg team that’s given up the second most points in the Bundesliga to midfielders.

Flex Plays

Nils Peterson, F, Freiburg ($6,000)

Peterson netted his first goal since January earlier this week. While he served as a sub in his last match, he remains Freiburg’s top goal scorer. His recent success on the pitch could lead to him getting a more prominent role moving forward. He’s not terribly expensive, and is one of Freiburg’s most dangerous offensive threats.

Vincent Grifo, M/F, Freiburg ($10,000)

Grifo has been Freiburg’s most consistent player over the course of the last three games. He’s tallied one goal and three assists while sending in 12 crosses during that time span. He’s yet to dip below double-digits in fantasy points since May 16th.
