UPDATE 9:01 pm: Katlyn Chookagian defeats Antonina Shevchenko by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-25). It was a dominant performance, as indicated by the two 10-8 rounds. Chookagian had major takedowns in all three rounds and dominated with ground control.
Katlyn Chookagian will face the sister of a fighter she took on in February during her bout with Antonina Shevchenko at UFC on ESPN 9 tonight.
Chookagian aka “Blonde Fighter” is a 31-year-old from New Jersey and sits in the #2 spot in the UFC rankings. She’s 6-3 in the UFC, but lost her last bout to Valentina Shevchenko in a title fight via third-round knockout on February 8th. 112 days later, she faces her sister Antonina.
Antonina is ranked #12 in the division. The 35-year-old is 8-1 as an MMA fighter, and 2-1 as a member of UFC. The sisters don’t seem too thrilled about potentially facing each other, reminiscent of the Klitschko brothers in heavyweight boxing.
The money has come in on both sides of this fight, but at this point is leaning towards Shevchenko who seems to be drawing the sharper action. That hasn’t stopped Chookagian from getting enough smart backing to drop from +120 to +115, though this fight has particularly been all over the board. We’ll see how the late money reacts.
