UPDATE: 9:47 pm: Roosevelt Roberts wins by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:26 of the second round. There was some bad blood before the fight, but Roberts ground game was just too much for Weaver.
The main card at UFC on ESPN 9 tonight includes what was scheduled as a lightweight bout between Roosevelt Roberts and Brok Weaver, but with Weaver missing weight yesterday it will be fought at a catchweight.
Even before the weight miss, the money was coming in against Weaver anyway as he was backed by just 22% of the tickets on the fight, though 30% of the action. It will be interesting to see if the bettors put any value in a training camp that didn’t achieve its goal before the bell rings tonight.
Roberts, nicknamed The Predator, is 9-1 and coming off a unanimous decision victory over Alexander Yakovlev at UFC Fight Night 163 on November 9. His only loss is a unanimous decision to Vinc Pichel at UFC on ESPN 3 on June 29, 2019. Roberts has three KO/TKO wins, four submission wins, and two decision wins.
Weaver, nicknamed Chata Tuska, is 15-4 and coming off a disqualification victory over Rodrigo Vargas due to an illegal knee. He’s won eight straight fights since losing via TKO to Martin Brown in 2016, including five by way of decision. In his pro career, Weaver has won two fights via KO/TKO, three via submission, two via DQ, and eight via decision.
