In a battle of heavyweights looking for their shot at current UFC champion Stipe Miocic, No. 2 ranked Francis Ngannou takes on No. 6 Jairzinho Rozenstruik this Saturday, May 9th, at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
Ngannou has been a revelation in cage fighting, having only been stopped twice in UFC, and both have been by decision; once by Miocic by two years ago, and then by Derrick Lewis six months later. The 33-year-old Cameroonian has won three in a row since, all by first-round knockout. He’s a striker with elite power, and has yet to be knocked out himself in the octagon.
Rozenstruik is undefeated at 10-0, including 4-0 in the UFC. He’s a converted kickboxer, who had a record of 76-6 with 64 knockouts, and has seven first-round finishes in MMA. His last fight against Alistair Overeem was by far his most dramatic: while behind on all four scorecards, Rozenstruik knocked out Overeem out cold with just four seconds remaining in the fight to secure the victory.
Despite Jairzinho being undefeated, the more impressive resume of Ngannou and his overwhelming power are why he’s the clear favorite in this match. The bookies also don’t expect this one to last very long, as the power both these gentlemen have while standing up should make for a fun fight on their feet.
