Aleksei Oleinik defeats Fabricio Werdum by unanimous decision

Two of the oldest and most experienced fighters in UFC history face off when heavyweights Aleksei Oleinik and Fabricio Werdum do battle at UFC 249 tonight in Jacksonville, Florida at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Oleinik is the #12 ranked fighter in his weight class, and his professional record of 58-13-1 indicates the extensive resume of the the 42-year-old Russia native. He is 7-4 in his UFC career, and a submission specialist that leads all of MMA with 12 career submissions via Ezekiel choke. Werdum is 40 days younger than his opponent, and the former UFC heavyweight champion was the first fighter to defeat the legendary Fedor Emelianenko in an MMA contest.

Werdum is the big favorite here over the Floridian Oleinik at -335, but is only taking 66% of the bets and 59% of the handle. With Oleinik’s penchant for submission victories, if you like him to pull the upset, a punt at +650 might be the best way to find value in a potential victory. The betting splits seem to indicate the underdog might be fancied by some of the sharper action already.
