NASCAR could face rain at Homestead-Miami Speedway races

NASCAR is headed to Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend, and serious rain is in the forecast.

NASCAR is headed to South Florida this week, and there could be some weather issues. On Saturday, the Xfinity Series and Truck Series will each run a race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. On Sunday, the Xfinity Series and Cup Series will each run a race, capped by the Dixie Vodka 400. However, delays could be in the offing.

South Florida media personality Andy Slater tweeted that the National Weather Service sees a higher potential for heavy rain throughout the weekend. The NWS has forecasts for the next week, and it’s not looking pretty. Here’s what they have to say for Saturday and Sunday:

Saturday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Light east wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. East wind 3 to 7 mph.

Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce frequent lightning. High near 87. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Some of the storms could produce frequent lightning. Low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
