“I can’t even stand right now.”
According to our friends at MMAFighting.com during their livestream of the weigh-in for UFC Fight Night on ESPN+, that’s what Jessica Eye said after her weight-cut miss by 0.25 pounds for her main event fight against Cynthia Calvillo.
Eye is the #1 contender at flyweight, and Calvillo is #10. But you wouldn’t know it from the weigh-in this morning. After a curtain was held over Eye so she could fully disrobe before getting on the scales (though she left her Covid-19-preventing mask on), the number announced on the scales was 126.25. That’s four ounces over the limit for flyweight, and there was still an hour left to weigh-in. Eye could have tried to shed the weight and get back on the scales if she chose.
But as she could barely stand up when getting off the scale, it was clear that might not be a great idea for someone scheduled to battle in the octagon in less than 36 hours. This looked brutal.

Eye accepted the weight miss, will forfeit 20% of her purses to her opponent Calvillo due to UFC rules, and the fight will take place.
It’s not the first time the #1 contender has failed to be light enough, though the miss here was far less than her previous efforts.
This fight was an exact coinflip in the eyes of bettors at -110 for both, and those numbers still hold as of this writing. But after watching that weigh-in, don’t be surprised if Calvillo picks up a lot more cash ahead of tomorrow’s bout.
