8:45 p.m. UPDATE: Merab Dvalishvili wins by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-25). Huge credit to the +600 massive underdog Lopez for hanging in there, especially after taking the fight on just a few days notice, but Dvalishvili was the superior fighter in both the stand-up and ground game.
3:10 p.m. UPDATE: DraftKings Sportsbook posted their latest fight day betting splits. The early wagering was on Lopez as the longshot, but it was a relatively small amount. As the larger share of money has come in, 60 percent of money and 77 percent of total bets are backing Dvalishvili.
Merab Dvalishvili will have his scheduled fight in the bantamweight division tonight, but with a back-up latecomer in Gustavo Lopez after Ray Borg pulled out due to the illness of his son.
Dvalishvili has gone all 15 minutes in all five of his UFC fights, winning the last three after dropping his first two. His last bout was against Casey Kenney in February, and he has just three stoppages in 10 UFC fights. Despite the lack of stopping power, he’s a huge favorite at the window because of the inexperience of his opponent, who got the last-minute call.
Lopez is 11-4 in his MMA career, winning his last three bouts by first round stoppage in 2:19 or less in the Combate promotion. He needed a bit of assistance to get out of that contract, but he was released earlier this week so he could fight. The 30-year-old out of Wapato, Washington has 10 wins by KO/TKO or submission, and he’s clearly found some backers in early trading.
Here are the betting odds and bet splits at DraftKings Sportsbook for Merab Dvalishvili vs. Gustavo Lopez at UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ tonight:
Gustavo Lopez: +500, 75% of handle, 55% of bets
Merab Dvalishvili: -770, 25% of handle, 45% of bets
