The main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night on ESPN got turned on its head when #1-ranked Jessica Eye came in 0.25 pounds overweight with still an hour to try and tip the scales correctly if she chose, but was so ill from her weight cut she didn’t even try.
One thing is for sure: She’ll definitely be the heavier fighter tonight as Cynthia Calvillo moves up from strawweight for her first flyweight contest in the UFC.
Jessica Eye: $8,300
Cynthia Calvillo: $7,900
If Eye can hydrate and recover appropriately, she should be the favorite over the #10 strawweight. But that didn’t look very possible for someone that almost passed out on the weigh-in stage. She’s also 15-7 in her career, but 11 of those wins are by decision, which is not what fantasy players are seeking. Five of her losses have gone the distance as well, which makes fading her a difficult choice too.
Calvillo is 8-1-1, and has taken on lots of moneyline betting since her opponent looked so unhealthy, going from -110 to -134. She has a quality stoppage ratio with five early endings in wins, but four of her last five fights have gone the route. She’s also moving up 10 pounds against a fighter that will hydrate to add plenty more weight ahead of the fight.
This should be an interesting match, and to see if Eye can get it together physically to stay on top of her division. But for fantasy purposes, this seems like one to avoid all-together.
