Former Utah Utes guard Both Gach has chosen the Minnesota Gophers as his new team, joining head coach Richard Pitino less than two hours away from where he played in high school.
The 6’6 guard from Austin, Minnesota did a year at Arizona Compass Prep before heading to Salt Lake City, and will be a contributor right away for the Gophers if he can receive a transfer waiver. Under current NCAA rules, he should have to sit out a season unless a petition from the NCAA for immediate eligibility is granted. That might have a better chance of being granted than most since Gach played his high school ball in the area.
Gach had previously narrowed his choices down to Maryland, Creighton, Iowa State, Auburn, and of course the team he took in Minneapolis.

Gach averaged 10.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in just over 30 minutes a game for the Utes last season. While he only shot 25% from three-point range, he brings elite athleticism and bounce to his new team.
I would love to give a huge Thank you to all the schools that took the time to recruit me but at this time I’m excited to commit to the University of Minnesota and join coach Pitino and his staff ..... Excited to be back home 〽️ pic.twitter.com/NeIeN2AtQB

Until he officially signs a letter of intent or a scholarship offer, there can be no comment from the University of Minnesota.
