UPDATE: Fight day odds and betting splits for Poirier-Hooker

The main event of UFC on ESPN 12 is a lightweight bout between two top-ranked fighters looking for a title shot in Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker on Saturday night in Las Vegas at the Apex facility.

Poirier enters third in the loaded division, with a 25-6 career MMA record and an excellent performance against Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last fight for the UFC championship, tapping out in the third round to what might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Prior to that he had won five in a row and nine of 10, defeating some of the best such as Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje.

He throws 5.51 strikes per minute, averages 1.55 takedowns per round, and is 17-5-1 in almost 10 years of being on the main UFC roster despite being just 31 years of age.

Hooker isn’t afraid to run his mouth even when he’s not fighting, and has a 20-8 MMA record. The 6-foot New Zealander will have a reach advantage in the fight, and averages 4.76 strikes per minute in the octagon. He’s won seven of his last eight fights, with six of the victories coming by stoppage. But with just 0.43 takedowns averaged every 15 minutes, he’ll look to win this fight on his feet.
