The NHL will commence Phase 1 of its NHL Draft Lottery on Friday, June 26, the League announced on Monday. The event will take place in Secaucus, N.J., at the NHL studios, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on NBCSN and NHL Network in the U.S. and Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
While these teams won’t be competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they will have a shot to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, which will take place after the season. The Red Wings have the best odds to win the lottery at 18.5%, while the Ottawa Senators and ... Ottawa Senators have the second and third best odds. Ottawa acquired the San Jose Sharks’ first-round pick in 2020 in the trade for D Erik Karlsson.
Since the NHL was unable to finish the regular season, there are two Phases to the NHL Draft Lottery process. This was all outlined by the League, but is pretty complicated, so if you need a refresher on how everything will work, head here for more details.
