We’ve got another loaded field at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands this weekend, though the leader isn’t a familiar face. MacKenzie Hughes had a HUGE Day 1 with a 10-under 60 to hold a three-stroke lead over Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland. Behind Hughes, the field is tight on the leaderboard, so it should make for another exciting weekend. Let’s take a look at some DFS Showdown picks on DraftKings.
Justin Thomas ($10,100)
This is sort of a sense of urgency pick for JT. Either he’ll have another mediocre round and miss the cut or he’ll storm of the leaderboard. Because it’s Justin Thomas, I’m going to say he’s going to make some noise on Friday and try and hit that cut line. If that’s the case, at +1 he’s going to need to gain a bunch of strokes. Thomas is one of the best golfers in the world, so he’s more than capable.
Justin Rose ($8,900)
Rose looked really solid on his approach in Round 1 and shot a 3-under 67. The Englishman had an uncharacteristic two bogeys on his card on Thursday, hitting two bunkers off the tee. If he can avoid those bunkers on Day 2, there’s no reason Rose can’t jump up into the top of the leaderboard. This is a really great price on a golfer who can easily make a run and win this tournament.
Louis Oosthuizen ($7,600)
Louis O looked solid on Day 1, hitting pretty much everything around the pin on the greens. A few poor shots off the tee sort of held him back from joining Schauffele, Rory and Hovland behind Hughes. The South African has a penchant for sputtering out, but I’d expect at least another day of solid golf from Louis O. Plus, we’re getting him really cheap for Showdown. If you want to pivot off Louis, go with Sergio Garcia at $7,900.
MacKenzie Hughes ($6,000)
Hughes’ ownership is going to be sky high in these Showdown contests on Day 2. If you watched his round, you know why. Hughes easily could have set a course record had he hit any of those eagle putts on the last two holes — which were definitely feasible. Hughes may lose some steam on Day 2 but it’s hard to ignore the clubhouse leader who is priced this cheap in Showdown.
