Will Marvin Bagley rejoin the Kings down the stretch?

Can Marvin Bagley III be a major contributor for the Kings if he returns from the foot sprain that’s kept him sidelined?

The Sacramento Kings’ title odds (+50000) aren’t great on DraftKings Sportsbook, and they could be missing Marvin Bagley III when the regular season returns in late July. Bagley might not play when the season returns because of a sprained foot he suffered in January. Without him, the Kings’ chances of climbing the ranks in the stacked Western Conference are slim.

The Athletic’s Jason Jones reports that Sacramento has given no indication about whether Bagley will play down the stretch, but his return seems unlikely. If he does come this year, he’ll likely back up Richaun Holmes and Nemanja Bjelica. He’s 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this year, but has only made 13 appearances with Sacramento while starting in six games. The Kings need all the firepower they can get as the 11th seed — especially since the race for the playoffs will likely be tight between the Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, and other teams.

De’Aaron Fox has flourished in his third NBA season and is Sacramento’s leader in points, assists, and steals per game. The Kings also have two reliable wing shooters in Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Harrison Barnes and Bjelica will also be valuable contributors, but the Kings will need all the help they can get to make a convincing push when basketball is back.
