The main event of UFC on ESPN 12 tonight are lightweights Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker. But is there fantasy value in this fight?

DraftKings DFS Values

Dustin Poirier: $8,700
Dan Hooker: $7,500

Right now Poirier is -235 on the money line, while Hooker is +185.

Poirier enters ranked #3 at lightweight with a 25-6 career MMA record. He had an excellent performance against Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last fight for the UFC strap, tapping out in the third round to what might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Prior to that he had won five in a row and nine of 10, defeating some of the best such as Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje.

He throws 5.51 strikes per minute, averages 1.55 takedowns per round, and is 17-5-1 in almost 10 years of being on the main UFC roster at age 31

Hooker is 20-8 in MMA record, and the 6-footer from New Zealand will have the reach advantage. He averages 4.76 strikes per minute in the octagon and has won seven of his last eight fights, with six of the victories coming by stoppage. With just 0.43 takedowns averaged every 15 minutes, he’ll look to win this fight on his feet.

We’re looking for early stoppages in UFC DFS, and this fight doesn’t lend itself to an early end. Hooker has only been stopped three times in his eight losses, and Poirier hasn’t ended anyone in the first round since June of 2016. This might be an excellent fight to watch between two skilled practitioners of mixed marital arts, but it’s not great for fantasy. Find a better one somewhere.
