As Gian Villante faces Maurice Green at UFC on ESPN 12 tonight, it’s with a huge step up in weight for the more experienced fighter. Villante made the 205 limit for most of his career, but tipped the scales yesterday at 255, the same as his opponent.
Villante is 17-11 as an MMA pro, but 7-8 in the UFC. He’s never threatened for the title and is unranked, but he won’t want to get on the mat much here either. He also hasn’t stopped a fighter since Saparbek Safarov in December of 2016, though he has 10 KO’s and two submissions on his record. He’s always looking to KO opponents, but will have a reach disadvantage of four inches against the 6’7 Greene.
Greene is one year younger at 33, and 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the UFC. His last two fights are losses to Sergei Pavlovich and Alexey Oleynik. He does land 4.58 strikes per minute, but he’s yet to takedown an opponent in his four fights in the promotion. The Evanston, Illinois native has two knockouts and four submissions in his MMA career. And he’s also a big favorite that’s getting action ahead of his price tonight so far.
