SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes ($11,800) is by far the most expensive player on this slate, drawing a salary that’s $1,200 more than Tyreek Hill ($10,600). We know Mahomes does extremely well in these simulations, but he has been on a different level as of late, averaging 22.1 DKP over his last five games. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns over that span while turning the ball over once. He’s getting harder and harder to fit him into your lineup, but he truly is one of the elite players in these stimulations. Against a very poor secondary like the Giants, he’s nearly impossible to fade.

Speaking of that putrid Giants secondary, best of luck to them trying to defend Hill, who, by the way, has the fastest speed rating in this game at 99. Hill has gone over 100 receiving yards in three straight games, a span he’s averaging 31.5 DKFP in. The Jets, who the Chiefs just recently faced, allowed him to make seven receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. This Giants secondary is just as bad, so I can’t imagine this begin a quiet game for Hill. It’s going to be tough to use both guys, but truly, I think it needs to be done. Travis Kelce ($8,400) has been a bit quiet as of late aside from a strong game against the Jets. He has 11 touchdowns to his credit and sees overall heavy volume, averaging five receptions and 66.7 receiving yards per game. If you can’t afford Hill, Kelce will just do fine with the amount of volume he receives. Sammy Watkins ($6,400) is often overlooked because people are either trying to grab the most expensive players or looking to spend down. Thus, Watkins at his mid-tier salary usually grabs fairly low ownership. He’s averaging 3.5 receptions and 52.3 yards with 16 touchdowns scored. Getting any piece of this Chiefs’ offense is highly recommended in this game. Finally, DeMarcus Robinson ($4,600) continues to be one of the better values on this team, averaging 3.4 receptions, 52.5 yards and 12 touchdowns scored. He’s essentially posting the same number as Watkins, but Robinson will likely be the higher owned of the two. In a game that is likely crucial to find some leverage, Watkins could be that guy over Robinson.

Damien Williams ($7,800) could be another player that could gain you an edge. Of all the players that people want to pay up for on the Chiefs, Williams doesn’t exactly top the list. He’s carrying the ball an average of 59.4 yards and does catch out of the backfield with 2.7 receptions per game. At $7,800, he’s priced quite reasonable, and it’ll likely be lower ownership than you’d expect.

New York Giants

If you want to go way off the board in this game, stacking the Giants would be the way to go. You won’t feel great about it, but it’s quite obvious where the ownership will go. Daniel Jones ($10,400) by no means has done poorly in these simulations and is averaging 18 DKFP through 29 games. With 246 passing yards and 52 touchdowns thrown overall, he’s usually a lock against the majority of teams. He’ll have much lower ownership than Mahomes, by far, and using the two together, while tough, would likely be a unique build, as you’d likely be forced to fade Hill.

The Giants receivers are lumped together in terms of production, as none of them have really emerged as the go-to option. Evan Engram ($7,000) leads all the receivers by the slightest margin at 12.9 DKFP, as he’s averaging 4.7 receptions, 56.6 yards and 11 touchdowns scored. He’s seeing some of the best volume on this team so taking him as your first Giants receiver, especially at his salary, is a strong consideration. Golden Tate ($8,800), who is listed as the WR1, has the advantage with touchdowns scored at 16. Overall, he’s averaging 3.8 receptions and 51 receiving yards. Those are fine numbers, but are you going to take him or a player like Kelce, who is $400 less and averaging five receptions per game? Darius Slayton ($5,600) is the speedy receiver for the Giants and has been putting in some solid work considering his salary, averaging 3.7 receptions, 57.4 yard and 11 touchdowns scored. He’s more expensive than Robinson, so I’d expect Slayton to carry lower ownership, making him a very intriguing option as well. Sterling Shepard ($4,200) is an easy pass for me, especially being only $200 different than Robinson. Shepard does not see nearly as consistent work as Robinson and has scored less than nine DKFP in five straight games.

Saquon Barkley ($9,600) is likely going to be one of the biggest difference-makers in this game. If he goes off, which he certainly has the capability to do against this Chiefs run defense, his likely low ownership could propel you up the leaderboard. If he doesn’t and someone like Kelce or Hill does, it would be detrimental to your roster, as fitting all those guys in is nearly impossible. The matchup is good and Barkley will catch out of the backfield, but with only one lineup for you to build with, it’s one of the biggest question marks on this slate.

THE OUTCOME

This game presents a lot of captain options and it really depends on your tolerance in this game. Do you want to make more of a “cash” lineup? If so, Patrick Mahomes ($17,700 CP) or Tyreek Hill ($15,900 CP) are your options. Maybe you want to have more of a tournament-style lineup. If that’s the case, I would roll with Daniel Jones ($15,600 CP) or Saquon Barkley ($14,400 CP). If it’s value you seek, Demarcus Robinson ($6,900 CP) is your guy.

Final Score: Giants 21, Chiefs 30
