UPDATE: Fight day odds and betting splits for Usman-Masvidal
UPDATE: Burns had to withdraw and has been replaced by Jorge Masvidal.
One of the most anticipated fights in mixed martial arts this year will be the main event of UFC 251, as Kamaru Usman takes on Gilbert Burns for the welterweight championship on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Usman is one of the more dominant fighters in the sport, with a 16-1 career record and an 11-0 record in the UFC. The champ defeated Tyron Woodley to win the belt in March of last year, and defended against Colby Covington last December. Ranked #6 in the pound-for-pound rankings, “The Nigerian Nightmare” might have stolen his nickname from Christian Okoye, but his eight career stoppages and streak of dominance is all his.
Gilbert Burns has torn through the division to become the #1 contender to get his title shot here. With a 19-3 career record and a 12-3 mark including six in a row in the black octagon, “Durinho” has 14 career stoppages and also defeated Woodley in his last fight in a dominating decision in Jacksonville on May 30th. And just 35 days later, he steps in the cage to win the title on Fight Island.
Here are the betting odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns at UFC 251 on July 11th:
