Report: NASCAR could schedule doubleheader at Dover in August

NASCAR has scheduled races through June 21st. We break down what could happen in late August.

NASCAR returned to action last month and is headed to Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend for its Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series races. The organization has announced a schedule of races through Talladega on June 21st, and will likely announce its next set of races in the coming days.

When the August schedule arrives, it will likely head to Dover International Speedway August 21st through the 23rd and include a doubleheader, according to Delaware News Journal reporter Martin Frank. NASCAR had a Cup Series race at Dover scheduled for May 3rd, but had to postpone it due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They currently have the Drydene 400 scheduled for August 23rd.

If NASCAR decides to have both Cup Series races that week, we would likely see the first one on Wednesday and the second on Sunday. The race weekend normally would be Friday to Sunday, but we’ve seen NASCAR run Wednesday through the weekend twice already at Darlington and Charlotte.
