The scoring for daily fantasy golf is where DraftKings sets itself apart from the other daily fantasy sites. Most sites have a very straightforward scoring system that awards fantasy points based on the finishing position of each golfer. That’s all fine and well, but DraftKings takes the scoring to another level. Their scoring is broken up into three different categories: scoring on individual holes, scoring on a golfer’s finishing position and scoring for birdie streaks and other bonuses.

Scoring on Individual Holes
You can find PGA Scoring and Roster Rules Here
Double Eagle (DBL EAG): +13 PTs
Eagle (EAG): +8 PTs
Birdie (BIR): +3 PTs
Par (PAR): +0.5 PTs
Bogey (BOG): -0.5 PTs
Double Bogey (DBL BOG): -1 PT
Worse than Double Bogey (WORSE DBL BOG): -1 PT
A quick glance at the scoring structure above and you will see that all scores on a hole are not created equal. DraftKings heavily awards golfers that are great at scoring, or, in other words, golfer that can rack up birdies and eagles. On the other hand, golfers aren’t heavily penalized for bogeys. They are only docked 0.5 fantasy points for a bogey and 1 fantasy point for a double bogey or worse.
Let’s look at a quick example to illustrate my point:
Golfer A: Shoots a first round of three-under par with seven birdies, one eagle and six bogeys.
Golfer B: Shoots a first round of three-under par with four birdies and one bogey.
In terms of the tournament, both players would be tied, as both shot a three-under par in the first round of the tournament. However, in terms of fantasy production, the two have much different scores. Golfer A finished the round with 26.5 fantasy points, while Golfer B finished the round with 18.5 fantasy points.
The big difference between the two was that Golfer A had more scoring holes than Golfer B. We can use this to our advantage when building lineups, as the golfers that make more birdies are more attractive fantasy options than those that just avoid bogeys.
Scoring on a Golfer’s Finishing Position
- 1st: 30 PTs
- 2nd: 20 PTs
- 3rd: 18 PTs
- 4th: 16 PTs
- 5th: 14 PTs
- 6th: 12 PTs
- 7th: 10 PTs
- 8th: 9 PTs
- 9th: 8 PTs
- 10th: 7 PTs
- 11th–15th: 6 PTs
- 16th–20th: 5 PTs
- 21st–25th: 4 PTs
- 26th–30th: 3 PTs
- 31st–40th: 2 PTs
- 41st-50th: 1 PTs
This part of DraftKings’ scoring structure is similar to other daily fantasy sites, as it awards fantasy points based on where each golfer finishes in the tournaments. As you can see above, the difference between a win and a top-10 finish is huge. A golfer is awarded 30 fantasy points for a win and only seven fantasy points for finishing in 10th place.
Predicting winners can be tough in daily fantasy golf, but DraftKings scoring structure really places an emphasis on wins. Targeting golfers that know how to win on tour can be better than targeting those that are consistently posting top ten finishes, but are rarely in contention on Sunday.
Birdie Streaks and Bonuses
Streak of 3 Birdies of Better (MAX 1 Per Round) (3+ BIR STRK): +3 PTs
Bogey-Free Round (BOG FREE RD): +3 PTs
All 4 Rounds Under 70 Strokes (ALL 4 RDS UND 70): +5 PTs
Hole in One (HOLE IN ONE): +5 PTs
This is the toughest part of scoring to predict in daily fantasy golf. We can predict which golfers will play well on certain courses, but it’s tough to predict which golfers are going to go on a birdie streak. Nevertheless, the bonuses awarded only add to the fun of daily fantasy golf. Birdie streaks, bogey-free rounds, and hole in ones can be difference makers each week.
