Two flyweights in the women’s division, one that might be on her way outside the UFC, will face off on the main card of UFC 251 when Paige VanZant takes on Amanda Ribas on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi on July 11th.
Ribas is 9-1 in MMA, and 3-0 with a stoppage and two dominating decision wins since joining the UFC. The #14-ranked fighter in the division averages 4.84 strikes per minute and 2.04 takedowns per 15 minutes, and with six career early endings she might be the next great female Brazilian fighter in the mold of Amanda Nunes. She enters as a massive favorite in this fight.
VanZant is only 26-years-old, and her fight contract ends after this appearance. She’s been very public that her opportunities such as Instagram and Dancing With The Stars have been much more profitable for her than fighting, so she might not be re-signing at the end of this deal. “12 Gauge” is 8-4 career, but hasn’t fought since a win over Rachael Ostovich in January of 2019.
Since then she’s spent more time outside of the octagon, and recovered from a broken arm as well. She averages 3.40 strikes per minute and 1.31 takedowns per three rounds completed, but the betting public has her as the biggest underdog on Yas Island by a mile.
