We don’t have a concrete date for when the NHL will be back, but we do know that hockey should return soon. If that’s the case, we’re going to go right into the Stanley Cup Playoffs with an updated format. There will be a qualifying round and then seeding matchups before we go into the 16-team field for the playoffs. The Stanley Cup is always up for grabs but never like this before. Let’s take a look at Stanley Cup winner betting splits since the end of May at DraftKings Sportsbook.

It’s no surprise that the Avalanche are still getting a heavy amount of handle and bets since Colorado legalized sports gambling. We also see the percentages trickle down from there. Most bettors aren’t considering the favorites, but rather where the value is — teams who were hot or have won in the past.

The Penguins have two Stanley Cup victories in the past five seasons. The Flyers were one of the hottest teams in the NHL before the break. The Blackhawks are set to host games in Chicago, so home ice advantage coupled with pedigree makes them appealing at +7500 on a clean slate. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews have won a few times before.

The Rangers come in as the second highest handle, showing us that bettors are perfectly fine going with the long shot. New York has a young, talented roster anchored by a veteran goaltender in Henrik Lundqvist. In an even field after the break, again, it’s anyone’s Cup to win.
