A pair of Top 10 featherweights battle as the main event of UFC on ESPN 13 this Wednesday night when Calvin Kattar takes on Dan Ige from “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, the second of four cards taking place in the United Arab Emirates.
Cattar is ranked #6 and is 21-4 in MMA, 5-2 in the UFC. His last outing was a KO of Jeremy Stephens just 67 days before this fight, and he enters with 13 stoppages in his career, 11 by knockout or TKO. The Methuen, Massachusetts native is a standup specialist averaging 5.29 strikes per minute, and he isn’t afraid to stick his face in the buzzsaw either: He absorbs 6.46 punches per 60 seconds as well. The 32-year-old has only been stopped once in his career, and that was in May of 2008.
Ige is 14-2 in his career and is also on a quick turnaround, having defeated Edson Barboza via split decision just 60 days before this fight. He’s ranked #10 and opened his UFC account with a decision loss to Julio Arce, but has won six in a row since. The 28-year-old from Honolulu averages 4.12 strikes per minute, but isn’t afraid of the mat either averaging 2.15 takedowns per 15 minutes in the octagon.
