The highlight women’s fight on the card at UFC on ESPN 13 this Wednesday is Molly McCann vs. Taila Santos in the flyweight division.
“Meatball” McCann is 10-2 in MMA with a 3-1 mark in the UFC, though she’s won all fights via decision. She’s a puncher that lands 5.3 strikes per round, but also isn’t afraid of the mat with a 1.36 takedowns per three rounds average. Where she struggles is defending those that want to grapple, as she defends only 50% of the shots taken to put her down. This is her first fight since October of last year, where the native of Liverpool, England defeated Diana Belbita via unanimous decision.
Santos is 15-1 in MMA, with her only loss coming on her UFC debut against Mara Romero Borella, which she lost by split decision. That fight was in February of 2019, so her layoff here, and a wrist injury forced her from a fight against Ashlee Evans-Smith, and then Ariane Carnelossi, in Uruguay last August. She averaged 2.4 strikes per minute and had one takedown in her only octagon appearance so far. She earned her contract with a decision win over Estefani Almeida in Dana White’s Contender Series. 12 of her 15 victories are by stoppage, 10 by KO/TKO.
