Two welterweight prospects, one of whom makes their UFC debut, will fight it out looking to reach the ranking slots when Abdul Razak Alhassan faces Mounir Lazzez at UFC on ESPN 13.
Alhassan is fighting for the first time in two years, his career sidelined after he was charged with sexual assault. He was found not guilty of all charges in March of this year, and the 34-year-old returns with a record of 10-1 and all 10 wins by KO or TKO. In the UFC he’s 4-1 with all four victories coming via first round knockout, and his only loss a split decision to Omari Akhmedov. He’s averaged 4.59 strikes per round in the UFC, but due to the speed of his wins has less than 15 total minutes of octagon experience.
Lazzez is Tunisian, but is on this card because he happens to live in Dubai. Also apparently someone he knows ran into Dana White in a restaurant, and that’s how he got discovered. I can’t make any of this up. He hasn’t fought anyone of note except Eldar Eldarov, who beat him via unanimous decision. He’s alleged to be 31 years old, but that’s also not confirmed, and is listed as having a 9-1 career record. Caveat emptor on this one.
