The highlight women’s fight on the card at UFC on ESPN 13 this Wednesday is Molly McCann vs. Taila Santos in the flyweight division.
Molly McCann: $8,200
Talia Santos: $8,000
McCann is the money line favorite at -136, with Santos a +108 underdog.
“Meatball” McCann has a 3-1 mark in the UFC and is ranked #15 in the flyweight division., Though she’s won all fights via decision, her 84 DFS points per fight is strong. She’s a puncher that lands 5.3 strikes per round, but also isn’t afraid of the mat with a 1.36 takedowns per three rounds average. Where she struggles is defending shots, as she repels only 50% of takedown attempts.
Santos is 15-1 in MMA, with her only loss coming on her UFC debut against Mara Romero Borella, which she lost by split decision in February of 2019. A wrist injury forced her from action until now. She averaged 2.4 strikes per minute and had one takedown in her only octagon appearance so far, scoring just 26 DFS points. She earned her contract with a decision win over Estefani Almeida in Dana White’s Contender Series, and 12 of her 15 victories are by stoppage, 10 by KO/TKO.
The activity of McCann might be enough to overcome her lack of stopping power, and if she was to get a knockout this might be her chance. Santos lost to a sub-pedestrian fighter in Borella, and hasn’t faced an opponent anywhere near McCann’s quality. We’ll have McCann on some rosters for sure, and hope she can get her first UFC stoppage over a rusty opponent.
