A pair of women’s flyweights looking to win their first UFC fight do battle when Diana Belbita faces Liana Jojua on Fight Island as part of UFC on ESPN 13 tomorrow night on ESPN+.
Diana Belbita: $8,600
Liana Jojua: $7,600
Belbita comes to the money line as the -195 favorite, with Jouja at +155.
Belbita is 13-5 in MMA with 10 stoppages, but dropped her only fight in the UFC to Molly “Meatball” McCann by unanimous decision last year. Now McCann is on the main card, and Belbita lifts the lid for the women tonight. In the McCann fight she landed 93 strikes but took 113, and completed one takedown for a total of 54 DFS points.
Jouja is 7-3, and was knocked out in the third round of her UFC debut against Sarah Moras on September 7th of last year. The 25-year-old from Moscow is 7-3, with six stoppages and five of those by submission. She had won five consecutive fights before her loss to Moras, where she completed two takedowns and landed 19 blows, but absorbed 44 before being TKO’d by elbows. She picked up only 19.5 DFS points.
Based on opponents, Belbita is the deserving favorite here. McCann is a ranked fighter in this division, and she competed well against her in a decision loss. Meanwhile Jouja got KO’d by a fighter likely let go from the UFC with a 6-6 career record.
The transitive property certainly doesn’t always work in MMA, but it leans towards strength for the favorite at a very good price. We’ll certainly have Belbita on our rosters tonight.
