A pair of Top 10-ranked fighters make a weight class change when Jimmie Rivera takes on Cody Stamann from UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Though both fighters are ranked in the bantamweight division (135 lbs.), this bout will take place at featherweight (145 lbs.).
Rivera is 22-4 in his MMA career and 6-3 in the UFC, though his losses are to three outstanding opponents in Marlon Moraes, Aljamain Sterling and bantamweight division champ Petr Yan. He moves up four kilograms, but is still ranked #9 at the lighter division. He lands 4.10 strikes per minute but where he really excels is in takedown defense, repelling 95% of shots taken against him.
Stamann defeated Brian Kelleher at UFC 250 on June 6th, and is 3-1-1 since joining the UFC where he’s ranked #10 at bantamweight. HIs overall MMA mark is 19-2-1, with 11 of his wins needing the judges. His 4.51 strikes per minute and extremely high 3.34 takedowns per 15 minutes of ring time in the UFC makes him one of the most active fighters in the promotion statistically.
