The Boston Celtics have flourished in the Eastern conference following the departure of Kyrie Irving and are only behind the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors in the standings. Kemba Walker is holding down the point guard spot and Jayson Tatum has grown into an All-Star this season, making Boston seem like more of a contender than it has been in recent years.
Boston Celtics NBA Finals matchup odds
Best Favorite: Celtics vs. Lakers (+1900)
The Celtics are only three games back from the second place Raptors. The health of Toronto’s Fred VanVleet is questionable, but Boston is healthy across the board. The Celtics plethora of versatile wings include Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown. While they have lacked some much-needed post presence, Marcus Smart gives the team plenty of toughness alongside Walker. Boston has beaten the Raptors twice in three games and are .500 against the Bucks. It’s not farfetched to think the Celtics could end up facing the Western Conference favorite.
Best Longshot: Celtics vs. Rockets (+6000)
The Lakers and Clippers are neck and neck with one another in the Western Conference, and there’s a considerable drop off between those two teams and the Rockets. Houston has a favorable record against both Los Angeles teams and no longer has the Golden State Warriors standing in their way. The top seed in the Eastern Conference hasn’t made the Finals since LeBron James was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which makes me think Boston has a decent chance to be in the hunt.
