UPDATE: They went with Kraken!

The NHL approved an expansion team for Seattle in late 2018, and this Thursday, July 23rd, we should find out the team name.

The organization tweeted the teaser video below announcing that, “The 32nd franchise comes to life” at 9 a.m. PT on July 23rd. There have been an assortment of potential nicknames thrown around, but the video suggests something related to the sea or fishermen.

The Seattle organization registered trademarks for 13 potential names, according to 710 AM ESPN. The names included: Cougars, Eagles, Emeralds, Evergreens, Firebirds, Kraken, Rainiers, Renegades, Sea Lions, Seals, Sockeyes, Totems and Whales.

Give the video a watch and I guarantee you’ll get some chills.
