Washington running back Derrius Guice tweeted on Monday he has been cleared for 2020. Guice missed 11 games last season due to multiple knee injuries. He tore his meniscus in Week 1, and after returning from injured reserve, sprained his MCL and missed the final three games of the season.
Washington spent a second round pick on Guice in 2018, with hopes he could emerge as the team’s starting running back. He tore his ACL in 2018 and missed the entire season. In the five games he played last season, Guice rushed for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries, and caught seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Adrian Peterson is the primary veteran competing with Guice for an opportunity. The team also spent a third round pick on Antonio Gibson in his year’s draft and a fourth round pick on Bryce Love in last year’s draft. Add in free agent additions Peyton Barber and KD McKissic, and there are a lot of bodies competing for opportunities.
