Odds and picks for July 28th games in the WNBA

Day 2 of the WNBA season gets the other half of the league teams into the standings.

The entire WNBA now has at least one game under their belt, and the basketball has been pretty good so far. Some teams, like the Phoenix Mercury, probably need a bit of time to gel. Others, like the New York Liberty, should play their way into improvement just with court time this season.

So which early starts are just a flash-in-the-pan, and who is the real deal? It’s very early, but it appears LA looks really good and Indiana looks really bad. It might be an incomplete on the rest of the teams in the league, but we’ll continue finding out who’s in the mix for the title in one of the most competitive basketball leagues in the world tonight.

Here are the odds and spreads for WNBA games of July 28th, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook:

Washington Mystics -3 vs. Connecticut Sun, Total 167.5.*
Los Angeles Sparks -4.5 vs. Chicago Sky, Total 171
Minnesota Lynx vs. Seattle Storm -8, Total 154.5

* From VegasInsider.com as DraftKings is unable to offer betting on Connecticut Sun games due to their partnership with Mohegan Gaming, which owns the team.

The Pick: Los Angeles Sparks -4.5

Candace Parker is back, and so are the Sparks. They blew a Phoenix Mercury team that’s still trying to find their chemistry off the floor on Saturday, and did so with ruthless efficiency both from the perimeter and on the post. 21 points for Nneka Ogwumike in just 23 minutes on 8-8 shooting against Brittney Griner is really impressive, as is 13 points and seven rebounds from Parker in her return.

They looked easy, efficient, and their veteran status should help them ramp up this season a bit sooner than most. Chicago is one of the top-half teams in the league and has good balance, but they should struggle with the run and fun of the Sparks tonight.
