UPDATE: 7:08 p.m. This fight has been canceled due to Gerald Meerschaert testing positive for Covid-19. No replacement for Ed Herman will be available on such short notice.
Two of the more exciting if not necessarily successful grapplers on the UFC roster get in the octagon this Saturday as Ed Herman takes on Gerald Meerschaert at light heavyweight at UFC Fight Night on ESPN live from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas.
Herman is 25-14-1 as a UFC fighter, now age 39 after making his UFC debut in 2006. He brings seven career KO/TKO’s and 13 submission wins to the octagon, and averages 2.20 takedowns per 15 minutes in the octagon along with 3.33 strikes per minute. His only fight for a title was his first, a loss for the inaugural middleweight title after appearing on The Ultimate Fighter 3.
Meerschaert gets back in the octagon quickly after a 71 second KO loss to Ian Heinisch at middleweight in the same arena he’ll be competing in Saturday. “GM3” is a promotion veteran with a 31-13 record and 29 career stoppages, 25 by submission. He’s got a reputation for fighting anyone, anywhere, at any weight class within reason, and his 44 fights at just 32 years of age shows he’s not afraid to get in there. He averages 2.34 takedowns for every 15 minutes in the octagon.
