With the NBA getting back into full gear, we take a look at championship splits and how the public is betting on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The NBA is set to restart its season in the bubble in Orlando this week. There will be eight games to decide seeding before the NBA Playoffs begin in the middle of August. Since the long layoff, we’ve seen some interesting movement as far as handle and betting percentage is concerned on DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s take a look at the updated odds and how they break down.

NBA Championship odds 2020 splits

So if take a look at the table, the public really hasn’t wavered much from their support of the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James and Anthony Davis got time off to rest and should be rejuvenated for the title push. At one point during the regular season, the Lakers had overtaken the Milwaukee Bucks as title favorites on DKSB. That has since changed to an even +250 for both teams. Still, the vast majority of bettors are piling on bets towards the Lakers. There may be around a third of the handle/bets going to the Lakers, but they may not be the most appealing bet to ship.

Behind the Lakers are — wait for it — not the Los Angeles Clippers but the Philadelphia 76ers. This could be a result of geography and where people can place bets (New Jersey, Pennsylvania) or it could be a result of faith the Sixers can put it all together. There’s no questions Philly has immense talent in Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Josh Richardson. With the time off to get 100% healthy, bettors are banking on Simmons and Embiid making a run at +2000 to win it all.

If we go a bit further down the splits, there are a few notable names. As of July 27, the Nuggets are 6th in terms of handle. At +3000, clearly the scrimmages and the emergence of Bol Bol have swayed some bettors to go with Denver. Again, geography comes into play being as Colorado has legalized sports betting. Still, there’s value in the Nuggets making a run with a slimmed-down Nikola Jokic, Bol and a healthy roster.

Who knows why anyone is throwing money on the Brooklyn Nets at this point. To see them ranked 10th is a bit odd considering we know Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving aren’t expected to come back, plus three other key players opted out. I’m more intrigued by No.s 8 and 9 in the ranks in the Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors.
