UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.: Vince Cachero has replaced Timur Valiev in this fight. “The Anomaly” now makes his UFC debut with a 7-2 career record, mostly in the Legacy Fighting Alliance.
Two UFC fighters with only one fight in the promotion and zero wins between them do battle at UFC on ESPN 14 as Jamall Emmers takes on Timur Valiev live from Las Vegas and the UFC Apex arena.
Emmers is 17-5 in MMA, but hasn’t had any luck around Dana White yet. He lost in the Contender Series in June of 2018, but came back to win four straight via stoppage on the independent circuit to earn a contract anyway. His only fight in the UFC so far was a split decision loss to Giga Chikadze in March of this year. In that bout he actually out landed his opponent 54-38 and had the only two takedowns, but still didn’t get the win.
Valiev makes his UFC debut with a 16-2 record mostly acquired on the Gorilla Fighting, the Professional Fighters League, and the World Series of Fighting. Of his 16 wins seven are via stoppage, and both of his losses are via decision. He’s from that long line of fighters from Dagestan trying to follow in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s footsteps, and here’s a documentary on his preparation.
