Odds and picks for July 31st in the WNBA

What might be the biggest game in The Wubble is tonight with the Seattle Storm and Washington Mystics facing off.

Three more games in the WNBA tonight, and the slate starts with the fun-but-not-good New York Liberty and Sabrina Ionescu against the Atlanta Dream, who get Courtney Williams on the court for the first time since being traded from Connecticut in the offseason. Ionescu went for 33 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a loss to the Dallas Wings two days ago.

The Indiana Fever take on the Dallas Wings in a battle of 1-1 teams early. The Fever picked up a 106-100 win over the favored Phoenix Mercury last time out behind 24 points from Tiffany Mitchell. And in the nightcap the Las Vegas Aces take on those struggling Mercury. Phoenix was one of the favorites from the West before the season, but has started 0-2 and is the worst defensive team in the league despite adding All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith.

Here are the odds and spreads for tonight’s WNBA action, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

7:00 p.m.: New York Liberty vs. Atlanta Dream -5. Total 167.5.
8:00 p.m.: Indiana Fever vs. Dallas Wings -2.5. Total 169.5.
10:00 p.m.: Las Vegas Aces -6.5 vs. Phoenix Mercury. Total 175.5.

The pick: Liberty vs. Dream Over 167.5

The WNBA has been friendly to the over so far this year, and here’s a spot where the pace and lack of defense should help scoring. The Liberty are dead last in offensive efficiency at 89.3 points per 100 possessions (granted with the opener was against the favorite Seattle Storm), but are fifth in pace at 84.5 possessions per game and concede a 106.5 points per 100 rating.

And Atlanta is even pacier (86 possessions) and worse defensively (113.4 defensive efficiency). With Sabrina Ionescu continuing to get more comfortable with her teammates, and the return of the midrange scorer Williams for the Dream, both teams should get over 84 points each.
