Miki Sudo, Joey Chestnut set new world records in victory at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

We have new world records as Miki Sudo and Joey Chestnut cruised to victory.

Independence Day is upon us, and with is comes the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. This year the event is taking place in a private location due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it still aired live on ESPN.

The women’s contest aired first, starting just after 12:10 p.m. Mike Sudo was a heavy favorite, and she cruised to victory, setting a new women’s world record. She chowed down 47 hot dogs, edging Sonya Thomas’ previous record of 45.

This was followed by the men’s contest where Joey Chestnut once again crushed the competition. He set a new world record on his final bite, finishing with 75 hot dogs and buns. He broke his previous record of 74, set in 2018. Darron Breeden finished a distant second with 42 hot dogs and buns. In setting the record, Chestnut surpassed his 1000th career hot dog in the contest.
