Updated Stanley Cup Odds after qualifying round, round robin games

The Las Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers look like a forces to be reckoned with ahead of the playoffs

The NHL’s postseason is approaching now that the round robin and qualifying round is over, and teams have seen their Stanley Cup odds rise and fall after initial competitive play. The Boston Bruins are no longer the favorites to win it all, and other contenders have surged forward on DraftKings Sportsbook. We’ll go over some of the biggest movers below.

The Vegas Golden Knights had the third best title odds at +800 before August, but beat the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, and Colorado Avalanche in their round robin games. They’re now the favorites at +550. The return of Mark Stone has helped raise the team’s ceiling, and points leader Max Pacioretty is set to return ahead of a first round matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Philadelphia Flyers had the fifth best odds at +1000 last month but are now even with the Golden Knights at +550. They went undefeated in round-robin play by topping the Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Washington Capitals. The Bruins and Lightning were considered the frontrunners in late July. The Flyers’ excellent goaltending will be a major factor. Philadelphia only allowed three goals in three round robin games against stiff competition.

The Bruins went 0-3 in round robin games and have dropped from +650 to +850. They now have the fifth best odds of the 16 teams competing. The Lightning went 1-2 with Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman back in the mix, but could be without Steven Stamkos for a while. Tampa Bay’s captain underwent core muscle surgery in February and is out indefinitely for now. He won’t be available when the playoffs begin on August 11, an there’s no telling when he’ll get back to his team at this point.

The biggest movers are all at the bottom of the odds. Most notably, the Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens both sprung huge upsets in the qualifying round. They entered the tournament as 12 seeds and both upset the 5th seed to advance to the first round.

Here’s a full breakdown of how the Stanley Cup and conference title odds have changed since just before the qualifying round began plan.
