What Tuesday means for NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs bracket

The NHL drops the puck on Tuesday for the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. We break down the first day’s schedule of games.

The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs are upon us! The puck drops on the first day of the first round Tuesday afternoon with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets squaring off in Toronto. The day gets going at 3 p.m. and wraps with the Vegas Golden Knights and Chicago Blackhawks getting underway at 10:30 p.m.

(7) Columbus Blue Jackets vs. (2) Tampa Bay Lightning

Game time: 3 p.m.

Final score: The Lightning won 3-2 in the fifth overtime.

The Lightning are -225 favorites to win the series. 65 percent of handle and 61 percent of total bets are on Tampa Bay. Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins is unavailable for the start of this series, which means Matiss Kivlenieks will remain Joonas Korpisalo’s backup.

(6) Calgary Flames vs. (3) Dallas Stars

Game time: 5:30 p.m.

Final score: The Flames beat the Stars 3-2 on a Rasmus Andersson goal at the 16:01 mark of the third period. Cam Talbot stopped 24 of 26 shots in the win.

The Stars are -118 favorites to win the series. However, 70 percent of handle and 71 percent of bets are on the +100 Flames. Stars goalie Ben Bishop might be available for Game 1, but it’s unclear if he will play.

(5) Carolina Hurricanes vs. (4) Boston Bruins

Game time: 8 p.m.

UPDATE: This game has been moved to Wednesday because Lightning-Blue Jackets still has not ended as of 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Bruins are -137 favorites to win the series. They are getting 51 percent of handle on the series, but the Hurricanes are getting 65 percent of total bets. Bruins forward David Pastrnak and goalie Tuukka Rask sat out Monday’s practice, but both are expected to be good to go for Game 1.

(8) Chicago Blackhawks vs. (1) Vegas Golden Knights

Game time: 10:30 p.m.

Odds: VGK -195, CHI +165

Final score: The Golden Knights won 4-1, with Reilly Smith scoring two goals in the third period to put the game away.

The Golden Knights are -278 favorites to win the series. 84 percent of handle and 75 percent of total bets are on Vegas. The Golden Knights welcome back Max Pacioretty, who missed the round robin schedule with an undisclosed injury.
