Thursday update: The first round was suspended at 6:34 p.m. due to thunderstorms. Players yet to complete the first round will be back in position Friday at 7:30 a.m. The second round will begin as scheduled at 7 a.m.
The PGA Tour teed off the Wyndham Championship on Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tournament go underway without any hiccups on Thursday, but there is a decent chance of a weather delay at some point this week.
The PGA Tour website offers a look at the weather forecast for the tournament, and it does not look good, particularly in the middle days of the tournament. Thursday has PM thunderstorms in the forecast, and then Friday and Saturday look like a stronger chance of thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service offers its own forecast for the region with some more specifics. Here’s how they break down each day of the tournament:
Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
