Two featherweights looking to crack the Top 15 rankings with a victory make it to the main card of UFC 252 when Herbert Burns takes on Daniel Pineda live on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Burns is a rising star along side his brother Gilbert, the #1 contender at welterweight. The younger brother is 11-2 with eight submissions and a knockout in his MMA career. His 2-0 record in the UFC has come via two first-round stoppages with only 4:03 of total fight time in the black octagon. He’s landed a total of 12 strikes and two takedowns in his dominating victories, including his last outing was on June 6th at UFC 250, an 80-second win via rear-naked choke over Evan Dunham.
Pineda makes his return to the UFC after being dismissed from the roster with a 3-4 record in March 2014. The 35-year-old enters with a 26-13-2 record as an MMA fighter, but had his last two bouts in the Professional Fighters League overturned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for elevated testosterone levels. His drug suspension ended April 18th, so naturally Dana White signed him for this fight. The Houston, Texas resident was 8-2 since leaving the promotion the first time, and his exciting style has led to him never winning a fight that’s gone to a decision: He has eight knockouts and 18 submissions to end all his fights.
