The NASCAR Cup Series is headed to Dover International Speedway this weekend for a doubleheader of the Drydene 311. The first leg of the doubleheader is set to start on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, airing on NBC Sports Network. Here’s how the starting order will be decided for the race.
NASCAR has changed its system for determining the starting grid in the three national series (Cup, Xfinity, Gander Outdoors Truck) moving forward. Three performance metrics will be utilized, with each one weighted a little different. It breaks down as follows.
- Finishing position from the previous race (weighted 50%)
- Ranking in team owner points standings (35%)
- Fastest lap from the previous race (15%)
This system will be used for the remaining regular season races and the playoffs.
Martin Truex Jr. is favored to win at +350 in his return to the oval. He placed third in last week’s road race at Daytona and is trailed by points leader Kevin Harvick (+400) on DraftKings Sportsbook. GoBowling 235 winner Chase Elliott claimed the pole in this race and rounds out the top three at +550. He has a real shot to win a second straight race in the series.
Here’s a look at the full starting lineup for Saturday’s Drydene 311.
