Two welterweights in the Top 15 rankings but on the cusp will battle in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Saturday when #13 Robbie Lawler takes on #14 Neil Magny at 170 lbs. live on ESPN+ from Las Vegas.
“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler is 28-14-1 in MMA, and now at age 38 he made his UFC debut in May of 2002 at UFC 37. Seriously. He’s lost his last three fights to Colby Covington, Ben Askren, and Rafael Dos Anjos, and his last win being a unanimous decision over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in July of 2017. Despite his ranking, he might be on the line for his UFC future. He lands 3.57 strikes per minute and 0.71 takedowns per 15 minutes.
“The Hatian Sensation” Magny is 23-8 as a pro, and is on a bit of a streak having won four of his last five. Unanimous decisions over Jingliang Li and Anthony Rocco Martin means he’s looking for his third win of 2020 here. Adept on both the mat and in the standup, the 33-year-old averages 3.95 strikes a minute and 2.55 takedowns per three rounds. He does tend to go the distance, with just seven knockouts and three submissions in his 23 career victories.
