Two strawweights need to upgrade their place in the pecking order when Polyana Viana faces Emily Whitmire at 115 lbs. at UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ this Saturday live from Las Vegas. This bout was originally scheduled for UFC 248, but Whitmire missed the 116 lbs. limit by 1.5 pounds, and then was hospitalized as part of a bad weight cut.
Viana is 10-4 in MMA with all 10 wins via stoppage, but she’s 1-3 in the UFC and on a three-fight losing streak. In her last bout against Veronica Macedo in August of 2019 she was finished for the first time in her career via armbar. Possibly as well-known for her Instagram feed and beating up a would-be robber in her native Rio de Janeiro as her fighting, “Dama de Ferro” (The Iron Lady) might need a win to stay part of the roster.
Whitmire is 4-3 with a 2-1 mark in the UFC, but hasn’t fought since being submitted via rear-naked choke by Amanda Ribas in June of 2019. The Hillsboro, Oregon native has just one career stoppage, and the Season 26 “Ultimate Fighter” alum averages 2.84 significant strikes per minute with two career takedowns in four UFC fights.
Here are the betting odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for Polyana Viana vs. Emily Whitmire at UFC Fight Night on August 29th.
