The 2020 US Open kicks off this coming Monday, August 31st at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queen, New York at Flushing Meadows. There was some concern the tournament would need to be postponed or canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it will go off as planned. Several notable players, including defending champ Rafael Nadal, have withdrawn due to the pandemic, but the bulk of the field will be playing.

The tournament organizers unveiled the men’s draw earlier this week, and the first round will take place this coming Monday and Tuesday. Novak Djokovic is the top seed and will open his Grand Slam bid when he faces Damir Dzumhur. Djokovic won the US Open in 2018 and will look to win his fourth Open title and 18th overall Grand Slam title. Djokovic won the Australian open earlier this year, and Wimbledon was canceled and the French Open was pushed to late September, he still has a shot at some version of the calendar Grand Slam.

A year ago, Rafael Nadal won the tournament, beating Daniil Medvedev in the finals. Nadal will not be participating this year, while Medvedev holds the No. 3 seed and opens against Federico Delbonis. Matteo Berrettini and Grigor Dimitrov were the other two semifinalists. Berrettini is the No. 6 seed and opens against Go Soeda, while Dimitrov is the No. 14 seed and opens against Tommy Paul.
