Rookies this season will get a crash course in the NFL with a shortened off season and no preseason games due to Covid-19. Thankfully, this season is full of strong rookie dynasty picks and a slower than normal ramp up to the season won’t be as impactful for their longterm success.
As you know, this draft was especially robust in wide receiver talent, giving us dynasty leaguers a good chance to stock up future studs. Hopefully we will reap our rewards sooner than later, but wide receivers can take a while to get up to speed with the NFL, even if they are extremely talents.
So far we’ve only had one significant rookie receiver land on the Covid-19 injury list. Rookie Justin Jefferson out of LSU has either been in close contact with someone with Covid-19 or has it himself. We always want rookies to get as much time in training camp as possible and this season it is even more critical. Keep an eye on Jefferson’s status.
No receiver landed in a spot you would automatically consider them as the No. 1 receiver, which in some ways helps us draft without putting too much emphasis on their workload in Week 1. My No. 1 receiver coming into the draft was CeeDee Lamb and landing in Dallas, where you can feel good about his future quarterback play, is a strong spot. Yes, Amari Cooper is there, but Lamb is too talented to be second fiddle for too long and Cooper’s contract lets Dallas out sooner than later if they want.
Jerry Jeudy would have been in Tier 1 if we knew Drew Lock was going to pan out, but that’s still an open question. Jeudy’s ability isn’t in question and he should become the No. 1 target, even with Courtland Sutton there, so I’m still on board and think Lock has a decent chance of being above average.
Justin Jefferson is a player who landed in a spot he should quickly see useful targets, as Stefon Diggs left a big hole in the Vikings offense. His ability coupled with Kirk Cousins and a strong spot in the offense, pushed him ahead of Henry Ruggs. Ruggs has a ton of talent and I think he turns out to be a high-upside player, but I’d like for him to have a better quarterback. As it is, he comes in as my fourth receiver.
