How lines have moved for Week 1 in the second week of NFL training camp

DraftKings is offering a pick ‘em contest and it’s now live in New Hampshire and New Jersey. We’ve got a look at line movement for Week 1 as you try and figure out your picks.

Three weeks ago, DraftKings unveiled their Pro Football Pick ‘Em National Championship with a $1 million top prize. The contest was available in New Jersey at that point, but now you can sign up in New Hampshire as well.

The contest requires making five picks per week, but you only need to make picks during 14 of the first 16 weeks of the season. You’ll get two “bye weeks” and nobody will make picks in Week 17.

The start of the NFL season is always a bit unpredictable, and this year’s season could be even more so. The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in no on-field workouts during the spring offseason program, and has also resulted in the cancellation of preseason games. Add in players opting out and potential testing quarantines and we’re looking at an NFL season unlike any other.

Back in May, DraftKings Sportsbook unveiled a full list of point spreads for Week 1. They came following the draft and the majority of free agency, so we have not seen much movement to date. As teams decide on fans or no fans, we’ll see some movement for some of these games.

Week 1 picks won’t be due until 10 a.m. ET on the Sunday of Week 1, although if you want to pick the kickoff opener between the Texans and Chiefs, you’ll need to get that single pick in by Thursday. All of that means you have some time to sort through how you want to play that first week.

Line movement is a useful tool in the handicappers arsenal. We’ll have a full rundown of where money is being bet at the book, but it’s worth noting the Lions have increased as favorite even as more money has come in on the Bears. As of lunch time Friday, 59 percent of the betting handle has been on the underdog Bears. At the same time, 65 percent of total bets made have been on Detroit. The Bears quarterback situation is a tough one to sort out. The team brought in Nick Foles to challenge Mitchell Trubisky, but neither is all that impressive.

The most significant line movement is for Eagles-Washington, where Philly has climbed 1.5 points. 80 percent of wagers and 73 percent of handle are on Philadelphia, which is not surprising given the low expectations in Washington this year.

Here’s a full rundown of how lines have moved from May 7th to August 7th.
