Full list of Week 1 straight-up picks with confidence levels

The NFL is back! The 2020 regular season gets underway on Thursday and we’ve got a look at who we think will win each of the 16 games.

Well, we made it ... sort of. The Covid-19 pandemic continues, but the NFL is one of the few sports that will start when it was planning from day one. The league has installed a host of procedures and protocols to keep players, coaches and team employees healthy, but it’s an uncertain time.

It remains to be seen how the 17-week regular season will go, but for the time being, Week 1 is upon us. The Kansas City Chiefs open their Super Bowl defense on Thursday against the Houston Texans, we get 13 games on Sunday, and Monday wraps up with the now annual Monday Night Football doubleheader. It’s going to be a busy three days of football.

Last year, we provided straight-up picks on Thursday for each week’s schedule and then picks against the spread on Sunday (with a prior word on Thursday’s game). We’ll continue with ATS picks, but we’re trying something different with straight up picks. We’ll still offer basic picks without factoring in the spread, but we’re going to offer up some confidence levels so there is a little more context behind them. A game with three asterisks (***) after it indicate a game where I’m picking the betting underdog to get the win.

I haver Titans-Broncos as no confidence because I really have no clue what to make of either team. Tennessee was a playoff team last year, but I’m not buying in on Ryan Tannehill while also being concerned about Derrick Henry’s workload. On the other hand, the Broncos have some intriguing offensive talent, but is Drew Lock the answer? And they just lost Von Miller which is a crushing blow.

I’m highly confident in Kansas City beating Houston, but I also think Houston will keep this one closer than expected. I’m taking the points with the Texans, but I think in the end the Chiefs get the home opener victory.

High confidence

Chiefs beat Texans
Patriots beat Dolphins
Lions beat Bears
49ers beat Cardinals

Medium confidence

Steelers beat Giants
Bills beat Jets
Panthers beat Raiders***
Chargers beat Bengals
Saints beat Bucs***

Low confidence

No confidence
