Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers will head on the road to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday night. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in town for its first on-campus visit of the college football season.

Clemson will look to get off to a hot start to the season after coming up short in the national title loss to the LSU Tigers. Lawrence is the front-runner to win the Heisman Trophy, and Clemson is heavy favorites to win the ACC with -455 odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The Tigers would likely look at their season as a disappointment without a national championship. In addition to Lawrence, Clemson’s star running back Travis Etienne will return for his senior season.

Wake Forest is headed into 2020 without last year’s starting quarterback Jamie Newman, who transferred to Georgia and recently opted out of the college football season altogether. Wake Forest put together solid offensive production, averaging 31.8 points per game for fifth in the conference. This year, the Demon Deacons will have to do it without Newman, who was a big part of the success. Sam Hartman appeared in four games last season and completed 56.7% of his passes for 830 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Saturday’s game will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET at Truist Field. The game will be broadcasted on ABC.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Clemson (-33) vs. Wake Forest
Point Total: O/U 60.5 (-110)
Money line: N/A

  • Clemson finished 14-1 straight up last season with a loss in the national championship loss to LSU.
  • In 2019, the Tigers were 11-4 against the spread.
  • Wake Forest went 8-5 straight up in 2019, capped off by a loss to Michigan State in the Pinstripe Bowl.
  • The Demon Deacons were 5-7-1 against the spread last season.

The Best Bet

Clemson has too many playmakers for Wake Forest to compete with arguably the best quarterback and running back in the country on its team. Will that be enough to cover the 33-point spread? It’s a little high, but it might be worth taking a look at the point total, which is set at 60.5. Clemson will certainly do its part because it’s hard to believe Wake Forest will have any success at all stopping the Tigers. The Demon Deacons have a unique offense that should be able to at least put a few points on the board to help out, unless Clemson hits the total by itself.

Pick: Over 60.5
